How we get prices

How we get prices

A price comparison is only useful if the prices are right. Here’s exactly where ours come from.

From the store’s own product page

Every price on DimeSnag belongs to one store’s listing of one exact product, and links to that listing. We get store lists from Google Shopping’s product pages (Google checks that stores’ listed prices match their websites) and from Amazon’s product pages. We don’t show “from” prices from search results that we can’t tie to a specific listing.

Checked, with the time shown

Next to every price is when we last checked it. When you open a product whose prices are more than a few hours old, we check every store again while you wait, usually within 5–20 seconds. Popular products are also re-checked every day. Prices we haven’t been able to confirm in the last 7 days are hidden rather than shown as current.

What we leave out

  • Marketplace and third-party sellers (for example “Walmart – Some Seller”).
  • Used, refurbished, renewed and open-box listings.
  • Bundles and kits listed under a plain product, and prices far out of line with every other store.
  • Stores outside our list of 100+ established US retailers.

The price you’ll pay

We show the item price before shipping and tax, because both depend on your address and membership. Where a store states a shipping fee, we show it next to the price. The store’s checkout always has the final total.

If a price is wrong

Stores change prices often, sometimes several times a day. If the store shows something different, click “Wrong price?” next to it. We re-check that product the next time anyone opens it and review every report.

How DimeSnag makes money

Some links are affiliate links: if you buy, the store may pay us a commission at no cost to you. It never affects the order. Stores are always sorted by price, lowest first, and every store we find is shown whether or not it pays us.
